"You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. (Isaiah 26:3 NIV).
If we look back at verse 2 we see the prophet Isaiah mentions a call to open the gates that a righteous nation may enter, a nation that keeps faith. Some believe this is the nation of Israel returning to Jerusalem at the end of their long exile in Babylon. Some believe this is the collective body of Christ made up of people from every nation who have believed in God, at the gates of the new Jerusalem.
What is clear is that this nation and these people may enter the gates because they kept their faith in God through uncertain times of turmoil in exile in Babylon and through the difficulties of this life.
Now in verse 3 we hear Isaiah describe the posture of a steadfast mind. The steadfast persons mind is the mind that dares to trust in God despite what might be happening all around them.
The result of the posture of a mind that trusts in God is perfect peace, a peace that enables one to stay completely calm even though all around them there is chaos.
I remember taking this picture after a long dark storm. We live in a dark world and we will face uncertainty, but we have a God who is trustworthy whom we can place our complete trust in. One day through the dark storm clouds of this life, Jesus, with fire in his eyes will come riding on a white horse to call those who have believed in him and chosen to keep trusting Him, to enter the eternal gates.
